Tom Mouse – The character
Tom Mouse is an inspiration to young mice around the world. He sees himself as an ordinary, curious mouse. Tom Mouse loves preparing for and taking on fantastic, extraordinary adventures. He is inspired and encouraged by Grandad Mouse, who was an explorer. Together they choose Tom Mouse’s next adventure by spinning his beautiful globe of the world. Tom faces difficult challenges on his adventures but he has great support from his loving grandad and from the wonderful friends he makes along the way.
“... you can do it Tom Mouse!”
Tom Barr – The Inspiration
The stories are inspired by the writer’s second son Tom, who was born with Down’s Syndrome and died in 2004, aged 7.
The books focus on the character Tom Mouse and his adventures and challenges, aided by the wonderful friends he makes along the way. The adventures are loosely based on the charity challenges which the writer has undertaken since 2005 for the Down’s Syndrome Association. These include: dog sledging in the Arctic; motorcycling across India and trekking to Everest.
